"With their indivual backgrounds in both Celtic and Rock music how COULD The McBrides go wrong... Their combination of traditional Celtic Music with the explosiveness of Rock is impressive. A must see show! A 4 shillelagh rating" Celtic Crossroads, WJCU-FM, Cleveland, Ohio "The McBrides, as their album Turn Your Head makes clear, are at least as much about Rock as Celtic... This group has a powerful presence that's combined with in-yer-face lyrics" Gary Seventeen, T.O. Nite Magazine, Toronto "It's bands like The McBrides that make Celtic Music rock. Their sound is so unique. Imagine if you took the sound of The Horslips, Thin Lizzy and the Chieftains and mixed them all together. The result would be The McBrides. They take traditional songs and add a rock edge to them. And their own music is Celtic rock at its finest. It's enough to get anyone and everyone up on their feet. There is no other sound quite like them. Celtic MP3 Music Magazine
A hearty review for "Hell Or Connaught" ... you fookin' DID get it right!!!! OMG, this CD is brilliant. It's dripping with authenticity. I can't believe these songs are not traditional classics. Serious kudos to your James Taylor for the writing. Not only do the songs have that authenticity going for them, but they are intelligent and clever, and the production is superb on every one of them. Beyond that, I don't even know where to begin. The musicianship is beyond outstanding; the guitars are fabulous ... a great variety of tones; and Sascha is killer on the drums. I think I'm just going to jot down some thoughts song by song .... Spancil Hill: a great, high energy way to kick things off. And that guitar in the last five seconds or so ... you are such a tease! For me, that was more like a beginning than an ending -- I definitely wanted to hear more of that!!! Life's a Funky Ceili: Talk about funky ... what a killer riff! You killed that solo! And I love those harmonies in the chorus. Bang: This is an anthem for the fist pumpers. Molly's Kitchen: What a great story, and something tells me that at least some of it is true! Love the horns ... just the right bit of punctuation. So Far Away: Exquisite and poignant and powerful. And such a sensitive and evocative vocal. I just wish I had a clearer picture of what this is about .. that great "glass of your heart" line is throwing me off. The Boys of Corktown: This is one of those ones that I can't believe hasn't been sung in pubs since the nineteenth century! Fire This Engine Up: Oh, yes, you do have a clue what a band's supposedto do! Again, great guitar stuff happening here. This one's pure fun! Makes me wish I were there. Forever Black: The vocal gymnastics here are impressive! Guitar man, I hear shades of Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler here, right? Rocky Road to Dublin: The accent blows me away. The vocals throughout this CD are really praiseworthy. And that last note ... surprise! Outro: Perfect ... the troubadours head on down the road, leaving a melody to echo in our heads and hearts. Thank you so much for sending me this hearty Irish stew. It's spirited and subtly seasoned with some funky special production effects. If I haven't made it clear, I love it from start to finish.
